Girard Sharp Appointed Co-Lead Counsel in J&J Ponzi Case Against Wells Fargo

On June 6, 2022, Girard Sharp was appointed co-lead counsel in In re J&J Investment Litigation, a proposed class action against Wells Fargo Bank concerning a $450 million Ponzi scheme perpetrated by Jeffrey Judd and Las Vegas lawyer Matthew Beasley.

Judd’s consulting company solicited investments in bogus purchase agreements in litigation finance. The investors’ funds were then diverted and dissipated using Beasley’s IOLTA attorney trust account at Wells Fargo. In early 2022, following a multi-hour standoff with the FBI during which Beasley brandished a gun and was shot, Beasley confessed to the Ponzi scheme.
