Girard Sharp is pleased to announce that the Daily Journal has acknowledged our work in the In Re Pacific Fertility Center Litigation with an award for the Top Plaintiffs’ Verdicts in 2021.
The Daily Journal interviewed partners Dena Sharp and Adam Polk, who represented the plaintiffs as co-lead counsel alongside associate Nina Gliozzo. The article noted that “[t]he most important evidence that led a federal court jury last June to award nearly $15 million to five potential parents for the destruction of their frozen embryos and eggs was those parents’ own testimony about their loss.” Quoting Dena Sharp, the Journal noted “…in reality, ‘this case was unique in that it involves human life,’ Sharp said. ‘I think everybody recognized that.’”
The PFC verdict is the first to hold an entity legally responsible for the suffering of patients who lost their frozen eggs or embryos. The verdict also brought to light the relative lack of oversight of the fertility industry, which has largely gone unregulated as its revenues have increased to billions of dollars annually. The verdict creates favorable conditions for responsible regulation of IVF companies and clinics, and sets an important precedent for future victims of similar tragic incidents.
Our firm would like to thank the Daily Journal for acknowledging our hard work.
