Daniel Girard Appointed to the Consumer Cases Steering Committee in the Target Data Breach Litigation

Daniel C. Girard has been appointed to the Consumer Cases Steering Committee in the pending class action lawsuit on behalf of customers concerning the Target Corporation customer data security breach. On May 22, 2014, U.S. District Court Judge Paul A. Magnuson entered an order approving Plaintiffs’ proposed leadership structure. Plaintiffs in the Consumer Cases allege that Target Corporation failed to take reasonable measures to protect its customers’ financial and personal information allowing the cyber thieves to exploit vulnerabilities in Target’s point-of-sale systems to access and extract customer data for resale on the black market.  The Consumer Plaintiffs also allege that Target’s security procedures did not comply with industry standards established by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council.
