Girard Sharp Managing Partner Dena Sharp was featured in a recent Law360 article exploring how generative AI is transforming class action practices, offering new efficiencies while introducing real risks.
Dena spoke to the growing concern around AI-generated fraudulent claims in class action settlements, highlighting a notable example from the $45.5 million Juul-Altria settlement in which over 14 million claims were submitted, many of them fraudulent and potentially driven by bots.
“This is the give-and-take of us using all the capabilities of the internet and digital technology to drive claims and to really try to make sure that we get money into class members’ hands,” Dena told Law360. “At the same time, we’re dealing with a flood of fraudulent claims that are driven to some degree by all of these technological capabilities that are out there.”
