2025 Data Breach Affects 4.5 Million Blue Shield Patients

Blue Shield of California is a nonprofit health plan supporting nearly 4.5 million patients in California. On April 9, 2025, Blue Shield became aware of a data breach that allegedly leaked patient information through web tracking technologies including Google Analytics. According to a complaint filed on April 10th, 2025 private patient information may have been used to deliver advertisements to a specific target audience.
