Multiple Boston Scientific Pacemakers Recalled After Causing Severe Injury
Pacemakers are battery-operated medical devices that are surgically implanted to deliver electric pulses to the heart, helping maintain a regular heartbeat. Boston Scientific, a pacemaker manufacturer, recalled its Ingenio model in 2021 and Accolade model in 2024 due to battery issues. The defective batteries in these models were linked to 7 deaths and over 800 injuries, according to Boston Scientific. A New York Times article recently revealed that the problem may extend beyond the Ingenio and Accolade models, with the Food and Drug Administration determining last spring that a pacemaker battery made more recently had also failed.
