Ambry Genetics May Provide Customer Genetic Information Without Consent

A lawsuit filed earlier this month against Tempus AI alleges the company violated state law by acquiring genetic laboratory Ambry Genetics’ database without customer knowledge or consent. Ambry Genetics sells products that diagnosis hereditary diseases including cancer. In 2024, Tempus AI purchased Ambry Genetics’ genetic database to improve its cancer testing capabilities and expand its database.

Statues in several states protect genetic information from unauthorized disclosure. Tempus AI may have violated these statutes if it compelled disclosure of Illinois residents’ genetic information from Ambry Genetics without the consent required under the law.
