Waymo Faces Second Federal Safety Probe

On January 23, 2026, Santa Monica police reported that a Waymo robotaxi struck a child near an elementary school during school drop-off hours. The child sustained minor injuries. This incident prompted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to launch a second safety investigation into Waymo’s operations.
